Visit by Professor Ewan Fernie

26 October - 1 November 2024, Belgrade

In late 2024, ESU Serbia hosted Professor Ewan Fernie, Chair of Shakespeare Studies at the University of Birmingham, for a series of interesting events. His visit included engaging with the University of Belgrade, the British Ambassador, Serbia National Library, the British Council, and renowned theatre director Nikita Milivojević.

Highlights included two inspiring lectures: “Shakespeare - Rise of a Genius” at the British Residence, hosted by British Ambassador Edward Ferguson, and “Shakespeare – the Laureate of Conversation” at Serbia National Library, attended by 200 guests. Both events featured wonderful contributions from the “Singers United” International Choir.

Professor Fernie’s visit celebrated Shakespeare’s enduring legacy and strengthened connections between Serbia and the UK through culture, academia, and conversation.
